Panasonic VariCam LT 4K S35 PL Cinema Camera

The Panasonic VariCam LT 4K S35 PL Cinema Camera is the newest addition to their line of cine cameras. This camera is very compact and lightweight, constructed out of magnesium. However, it offers the same picture quality specs as the larger VariCam cine cameras. The LT was designed to be operated via comfortable, ergonomic shoulder mount or mounted on a gimbal or drone.

The Panasonic VariCam LT 4K S35 PL Cinema Camera features a Super 35 MOS sensor and dual native ISO settings of 800 and 5000. The native 5000 ISO allows you to shoot in very low-light situations while maintaining clear, low-noise images. Furthermore, the LT boasts “wide dynamic range, an expansive color gamut, and high sensitivity for 4K image acquisition.” To be exact, the VariCam LT offers 14 stops of dynamic range as well as a V-Gamut. This gives the LT a wider color gamut than film. As a result, the camera produces beautiful skin-tones.

The Varicam LT features a S35 sensor that features dual native ISO ratings. This allows you to shoot in normal and low light levels without needing to introduce gain to the image. Plus, when you record using V-Log you can capture up to 14 stops of dynamic range. The camera comes with an EF mount, but the kit includes the PL mount adapter, greatly expanding the choice of lenses that you can use. The shoulder mount and grip allow you to hand hold the camera comfortably, and the grip module provides start/stop, iris control dial, and two user-assignable buttons to control the camera.

Both cameras have a dual codec recording function that allows the user to record a primary or “main” codec as well as a smaller proxy file.
